PC2 Assembled 2The Gear Research Institute is an independent not-for-profit corporation, registered in the state of Pennsylvania. The Institute, affiliated with the ASME and the AGMA, is organized to provide and supplement gear and related technological needs by conducting research and development, consulting, analysis and testing. The Institute is a leading proponent of cooperative pre-competitive research but, when requested, also serves individual companies. Since 1982, when it came into existence, it has conducted many programs in important technology areas. Please take a few moments and review our previous and current research, as well as the many sponsorship opportunities that are available.

EMPLOYERS INTERESTED in developing your future gear engineers at Penn State/GRI --- Support a graduate or undergraduate training at the Gear Research Institute (GRI) at Penn State, to develop a more knowledgeable and talented workforce; to meet your company’s future need for engineers with gear education and experience. GRI provides opportunities for “hands on” training in gear geometry, metrology, metallurgy, testing, failure analysis and characterization, as students get involved in the various Federal and industry sponsored research projects.
