The second shift manufacturing supervisor will maintain optimum operations by assigning workers, hiring and training new employees as required, collecting and analyzing data to reduce waste and identify continuous improvement opportunities, and prioritize worker safety. Also responsible for worker morale, product quality, and adherence to production schedules.  Responsibilities include supervising day-to-day operations of a machining facility producing shafts and parallel axis gearing.  Position will lead and administer hourly employees, control costs, and always ensure the site is operating smoothly, efficiently and safely. This position will have direct supervisory responsibility for approximately 30 machine technicians.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the facility and ensure a safe working environment is always maintained
  • Ensure products are manufactured and shipped according to customer delivery and quality requirements
  • Control plant labor and burden costs
  • Instill the Meritor Production System (MPS) into the day-to-day activities of the plant
  • Interface with design engineers in support of new product introductions
  • Identifies and addresses strengths and weaknesses of production team members through training, counseling, and corrective action when required
  • Administer performance reviews with team members
  • Administer time and attendance for hourly employees per Meritor policies
  • Solicit for and supervise overtime as required
  • Partners with materials, engineering, maintenance and quality to achieve area performance goals
  • Ensures plant housekeeping standards are met by implementing 5S
  • Drive continuous improvement suggestion implementation in the plant

Preferred Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Management, or Business preferred but not required
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification desirable 
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment with 3 years direct supervision required
  • Multi year experience within a Lean Manufacturing Environment required
  • Experience in precision machined components required
